Canada got the bronze medals

The battle of the bronze medals was fought between England and Canada for the third time in a row. The last two third place games were won by the European squad, but Canadians were more successful this time and got just the bronze medals for the second time in history after twenty seven years. Canada has created a key advantage in the first half, which they guarded in the second one as well, against England at the big stadium in Prague's Eden on Saturday. The Maple Leafs players could celebrate the medals after the victory 14:9 over England.

The first lacrosse game at the big Eden stadium was the struggle for the third place in the World Cup. Canada started very swiftly and Amanda Friend shot the first goal of the match only two minutes after the first whistle. A while later, the North American team led 3:0. Englishwomen were hardly attacking and they called a timeout after the fourth goal in their net in fifteenth minute. But the break rather helped the Canadians, Amanda Friend finished a hat-trick and soon even assisted in another McKenzie's goal.

England managed to lower their opponent's lead in seventeenth minute when Kirchheimer pushed the ball behind a back of the Canadian goalkeeper. After that, Canada continued in the offensive and effective game and were leading 9:1 only six minutes to the end of the first half. England woke up soon, engaged in many dangerous chances but managed to strike just three times until the end of the period.

The Maple Leafs squad was bravely guiding their lead and was not letting the English to any chances in the second half. Amanda Friend shot another two goals within next ten minutes and the team Canada was heading to victory. England then improved their attack and modified the score to 8:12 fifteen minutes to the end of the game. Australia then called a timeout and Crysti Foote enhanced their advantage soon. Both sides scored just once to the end of the match, and Canada deservedly triumphed over England 14:9 and won the bronze medals.

Amanda Friend, midfielder of the winner, was really exalted about the success of her team.

"We just knew we had to do that and when we play together we get where we need to be. It is just so amazing feeling. We wanted to get Canada up and I feel like we are getting there. Especially for the girls who have been to so many World Cups, all of us younger ones wanted to play for them, because we know that they have dedicated their lives to Canada lacrosse and we give everything for them," said Friend.
